Listen, it's really very simple.You (Mastodon) claim to be an alternative to Twitter, which is a site sliding more and more into extremism and "free speech" MAGA fascism.Fair enough.Why invite Meta/Facebook, which encourages the EXACT SAME THING? Why even DISCUSS things with them? They are the same as Twitter, and probably even worse.Capitalists do not have any enemy on the right, not matter how far right you go.@SDF - what say you? An official position would be greatly appreciated.

Full Disclosure: I am a nobody around here. I play moderator on SDF and that's about it.But here is the difference: "we" have the software. Nothing prevents us (users and moderators) from leaving "Meta-compliant" instances to create our own.So, do you want a Reddit? Because that is how you are going to get a Reddit: if you keep on talking to Meta.

@ParadeGrotesque @SDF Approaching this through the lens of anarcho-capybarism. Federating with Meta would give it a degree of ruling power, if not over the whole community, at least over the smallest, weakest members.An-Capy commandment #1 is "Thou shalt not ally with the powerful against the weak."Meta would have to spin up a hundred instances, each managed independently, to diffuse the power of its largeness, before I'd even consider federating with any on their own merits.
