can someone pls explain to me why The IPA has a tax-free status? Are they considered a charity? Have they ever donated a cent to charity since they receive millions of tax-free dollars from the Gina Rinehart's of Australia

@Penelope That's not the way charities work; they receive money, not donate it to other charities. The IPA:Created by rich businessmen in 1943, who thenCreated the Liberal Party in 1944, which thenGranted the IPA DGR status in 2007 just before losing government. The IPA uses it's donations to further it's research, a lot of which is at the behest of businesses opposed to Government policies (tobacco, fossil fuel, etc). It doesn't undertake "charitable works" as the general public understands the term. It's a rort and a way for businesses like Reinhart's to donate for their own benefit and claim tax relief for their charitable efforts. 😒#Charity #Australia #IPA

@Grandalf @Penelope The IPA slither in to exemption of income tax under Section 50.5 of the ITAA by claiming they are an educational research institution.'The advancement and promotion of education are charitable. Charitable organisations for the advancement of education include schools, colleges, universities, research and scientific institutes, scholarship trusts, school building funds and parents and friends associations.'So donations by big business & industries have ready made tax deductions as well as the IPA itself being tax exempt.

@RHW @Penelope Yep. No "charitable works", just spending their income on themselves. The IPA is a political entity and should be dealt with as such. They annoy the shit outa me, what with their bullshit "research" and all.

@Grandalf @RHW @Penelope They pretend to be an academic institution. Hence members are "fellows" and so forth. Just layers of dishonesty and prevarication.

@Grandalf @RHW @Penelope The IPA writes the LNP policy book. It is representative of a tiny minority of very wealthy people. Such wealth should not be owned by individuals in my view. They preach kindergarten economic and social policy and have FAR TOO MUCH political influence. They are, of course, supported by the Murdoch media empire.

@rwba @Penelope @RHW Something that I suspect a lot of the electorate still don't understand: the IPA 𝙞𝙨 the Liberal Party. They are not and cannot be differentiated. At least the Labor Party has some points of difference to the union movement.

@rwba @Grandalf @RHW @Penelope And the IPA have slimed their way into propagandising at the ABC, ie Switzer's Between the Lines along with other Mordock IPA sock puppets.
