One reason I sincerely wish lotide was a bit more advanced is it seems like the easiest of everything in the space to deploy by an order of magnitude.

@stux I *think* @jerry encountered a similar issue and addressed it? If so, maybe he would be willing to take a look or can point you in the right direction.

@stux Just double checking, are you confident your host doesn't block SMTP? A lot of hosts do by default.Quick check might be to use port 2525 for mailgun instead, this rarely is blocked. (And it's what we use for our mastodon server)Your settings otherwise look fine

@vndmtrx @stux @jerry If your host blocks outgoing 587 its time to find a new host.

@stux have you tried replacing tls_type: "starttls" with tls_type: "tls" in the lemmy.hjson file. (Can you possible compile a list of what you have tired so I can avoid having you try stuff you have already done)

@Spellbind0127 Yes, the configs for lemmy (mail settings) are good :ablobwink: Also tested with settings from .world that should always work

@stux from what I'm getting it's the SMTP Service on the other side that is responding awkwardly when you send that test email from Lemmy. Here's a suggestion: when setting up that Email server, see that it is configured to allow connections from your Lemmy VM/Instance there properly.Other avenues you can try is 1) enable/disable TLS when sending & accepting, or 2) figure out how you can set SMTP_DEBUG=true on the Email Service/Instance for more logging.
