       Let this bad-faith “Biden should pardon Trump to unit the country” nonsense serve as a reminder of two things: First of all, mainstream outlets hiring hacks like Thiessen in a panicked attempt to demonstrate “balance” and how much they listen to “real America” was a disastrous policy.

       Secondly, beware of those who demand appeasement or even submission to the Right in the name of “unity.” At best, the “unity” gospel serves to obscure the political conflict - and quite often, it purely serves to undermine attempts to hold reactionary extremists accountable.

       As always with such disingenuous nonsense, let’s not waste time pointing out the flaws in “arguments” that were never meant to stand up to any kind of scrutiny, only to muddy the waters. Call out the underlying reactionary political project and how this drivel is intended to further it.

       @tzimmer_history The “unity” line is how the Confederates won the peace after losing the war. Johnson was Lincoln’s VP in the interest of unity, the Compromise of 1877 that ended Reconstruction prematurely and ushered in Jim Crow was made in the interest of unity, the narrative of the Lost Cause was given mainstream academic acceptance in the interest of unity, military bases were named after Confederate generals in the interest of unity.
