@Deus @jaredwhite I understand it. it costs genunine cpu cycles, process time. database time to scrape all this stuff. they use AWS so it costs them a fuckload to have these ChatGPT and others scraping constantly. I fully get why he's going fuck-you mode

That another ‘factual’ interesting perspective I did not think of. But the ‘Buy reddit gold’ and acquisition by Tencent did not help? Tencent are HUGE - owners of (among many others) WeChat, the super-app that a Chinese cannot live without (literally). Pic for the memories.

@jaredwhite Yes, typically when a service is "free" then the people using the service are technically "the product" in terms of data capture on their habits. To then take a "free" service and charge for it, and yet keep the user's data habits (to sell to interested corporations) is double billing, in a way. Reddit's move will cause it to implode, as users realize they're being used.
