I absolutely love C++, I think everyone should make software with it. it’s like the best programming language in the world, how come it hasn’t gained everyone’s heart yet??I know it’s old and all and I also agree that it should drop compatibility with ancient features. maybe this is the last step to complete success??omg my heart can’t take it every time I think about it :heart: I love it so much

@FrailLeaf no, my love for C++ is genuine. it’s the programming language that I most programmed in my life, and the only language that captivated my heart. it wasn’t like love at first sight, we even had some fights before achieving reasoning…I’d never abandon C++ or use another language more than it. I can get disappointed some times, but we’re always gonna make up again :02_blush:

@cat567 I’d definitely go for Qt. Qt is a great framework for designing and building GUI programs. but if you’re starting now, I’d recommend you to learn basic concepts first, because even though Qt is good, it’s well structured and relatively complex welp, you can go full C++, but there’s QML, which is Qt’s declarative language for UIs

@jun As somebody who works with C++ professionally, while it's decent at managing large projects, it has some very serious scalability issues that they've been trying to fix for a long time with questionable success. Smart pointers did a lot to address it but they have their own drawbacks in terms of murdering compile times. In the end, it's very hard to recruit people to work on your project because they have to be MEGA WOKE when it comes to minding memory references. If they're not, they end up taking a pointer to an element of a dynamic vector and make a time bomb that's impossible to find. Yes, I know that rust addresses this but I'm not convinced that it's the way forward. The core idea is good but it seems like there's way too much clusterfuck built on top of it and I don't see how it can be effectively integrated into legacy code. Also, while it's not a *practical* problem, it is severely annoying how C++ can look like 5 different languages depending on who's writing it. I use resharper and I continue to be amazed by the wacky shit it will generate on a whim using syntax I didn't even know existed after using it for 10 years.

@Osmium @Nishi my coworker is working on a machine learning model in python, the lib he’s using has a function to generate C++ code. I’m a firmware programmer, but I”m not fond of mach.ine learning or neural nets (I’m learning them), so he only sends the generated code and I have to make it work
