I am not a psychologist, but this Opinion in the Washington Post does not seem right to me:"But if Republicans somehow nominate someone other than Trump, the indictment could work to the GOP’s advantage in a subtle but powerful way. The threat of prison in a second Biden term would give Trump a strong incentive to support the Republican nominee and urge his base to do the same."Can you imagine Trump losing gracefully and backing a nominee other than him?https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/06/14/trump-indictment-2024-election-republicans/?utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=wp_main&utm_medium=social

Also what about indictments in Manhattan and Georgia? It just seems ridiculous to me.The theory puts Trump in the position of a supplicant. I'm just not seeing it.Adding: There is the component of winning a presidential election after promising to pardon Trump.I'm just not seeing that, either. The game will be to court Trump's voters without offending center-right Republicans and picking off a few people who believe the anti-Biden nonsense.

@Teri_Kanefield It would be off-brand for Trump to not insist that he was the real winner and the nomination was stolen from him. And he probably doesn't believe they'll ultimately put him in jail (I don't really believe it either). OTOOH, if he's sentenced to prison before the election maybe he'd be desperate enough that he'd actually support the GOP nominee if they promised to pardon him? Trump's stubborn, but is he "I'd rather die in prison than help someone else be president" stubborn?

@Teri_Kanefield OTOOOH, maybe if another Republican won the presidency they would rather Trump stay in jail where he could cause them less trouble and not run against them in the next election so they'd just ... not pardon him.
