nuintari's rules of networking 0x05:A proper recursive name server is local to your network. Never use any of the commercial providers that really want your DNS traffic. They really want your DNS traffic for a reason. That reason does not have your best interests at heart.DNS is not hard.

@nuintari Comcast residential will block your traffic if you do not use their DNS servers. Am using a Rasp-Pi and had to configure it to use Comcast’s servers because they kept blackholing its IP.

@cybeej @nuintari Dude. $55/ month. 1TB down, 1TB up. AT&T Fiber. No caps. Nothing blocked. If it’s available to you owe it to yourself to ditch Comshaft.

@nuintari @gme my first job out of the USMC back in 1997 was working for a CLEC that resold RBAC (the Baby Bells, you know back before Ma Bell was resurrected) telco services based upon the Telco act of 1996. The RBACs were so awful to do business with that I forswore their services.

@cybeej @nuintari So in 1993 I was a co-sysop for Infinite Space Systems in Orlando. [inspace.net]. We and [magic.net] were the first ISPs in Orlando. There was always some debate who was first since we both started providing SLIP/PPP dialup to our customers within a day of each other. We had a T1 line down to Tampa where our “POP” was. Livingston routers. Livingston networking gear the whole way. And using The Major BBS/ Worldgroup to do radius authentication. But I saw the writing on the wall way back then! Because it wouldn’t take anything for BellSouth to do exactly what we’re doing for 1/10th the cost since they owned the copper and the transports. I mean, we were using BellSouth copper to backhaul our T1 line down to Tampa. In 1996 I moved down to Ft. Lauderdale to go work for one of the first internet porn companies. I was the IT guy so I certainly wasn’t in front of any cameras. (But my office was right next the talent). That got old real quick. On Thanksgiving day 1997 I reached out to a guy by the name of Tom Holderby. He ran Sundial Internet Services in Orlando. Retired from Martin Marietta (that’s how long ago this was) and started [sundial.net].But less than a year later the consolidation was already happening.Infinite Space sold out to MagicNet I believe then shortly they sold out to Mindspring. And BellSouth started calling wanting to buy up Sundial’s userbase. That’s when I moved up here in 1999 to go work for S1.Mindspring was still independent in 1999, and I think even 2000 or so. I remember their offices on Peachtree in Buckhead because I interviewed with them for a security position but ended up going to work for Interland across from CNN Center instead. And the rest they say is history……. ;-)

@nuintari @gme while not a PBR, a shitty beer nonetheless. Why the app decided to flip the pic I’ll never know.
