Does anyone else have issues with Spectrum internet? Every hour or two every device on my network will stutter for a minute or two. I’m trying to determine if they’re throttling my connection. If I’m playing a persistent connection game, I’ll usually get booted out with some sort of “malformed packet” error.

@Brycicle I've been seeing more stuttering lately. I heard MPAA/RIAA etc have pressured them to help stop piracy. This translates to them throttling everyone using garbage software that thinks everything is a DDOS attack. Download a 100+MB file like a video not from a "known corporate silo site" & a 3-minute DL take an hour+. I've seen 2.8 Mbps drop to 100kbps.

@Klaatu that makes a lot of sense. I haven’t changed a thing with my network yet recently this has become a pattern. Oddly, having “send a reboot command” to my modem made the issue go away, but only for a day or two then it comes back. I’ll have to give them a call later and probably start using a VPN or something

@Brycicle if you download too many files even in the middle of the night when everyone's asleep and bandwidth is wide open, all of a sudden you won't be able to open any more connections. I mean I'm listening to George Noory show as a radio stream fine and yet I can't open a new browser web page anywhere. The fix is unplug the modem, reboot your router, plug modem in & let it grab a new WAN DHCP address. Then everything's fine again for another 2 GB of traffic. Time to VPN it.

@CSBHOTSQUAD @Klaatu I’m vindicated. I thought I was going crazy. I wonder if there’s any news stories about it because it’s frankly quite ridiculous

@Klaatu reboot the router legitimately or also unplug then plug it?

@Brycicle @Klaatu Anyone else had their browser throwing up that broken page symbol the last couple days? That doc icon with the top corner folded over?Last 3, 4 days? Maddening.

@CSBHOTSQUAD @Klaatu that one I haven’t had yet. My main two experiences are getting booted from games like OSRS or Diablo 4 and having my Remote Desktop connections from work freeze up for up to a few minutes

@Brycicle @Klaatu The reason I ask is because it's not a 502 or a 404 or anything in a text code. It's that dumbass icon in the middle of a black screen, which I swear I haven't seen in years.

@Brycicle @Klaatu take your modem in and have them replace it. There is a bug in the firmware on a number of their modems.

@Brycicle I have a few issues and am unsure the cause all on a wifi connection. 1-Streaming music on rhythmbox will sometimes stall. 2-Download of podcasts on itunes with windows pc download speed varies fast to a crawl.(sometimes this could be windows updates that take forever)

@hammerron rumor is several ISPs are being pressured to crack down on piracy and are using extremely crappy (technical term) software to try and detect it

@Brycicle it doesn't matter I unplug and plug my router back in and that reboots it. My router is separate from my cable modem. You need to power off and on the cable modem so it resets and grabs a new DHCP address from the cable company. While it's rebooting, I power cycle my router so it requests the new DHCP address from the cable modem. If the cable co hands you back the same address you just released it'll still be slow but I've only had that happen once.

@Brycicle @CSBHOTSQUAD it's not an HTTP error. I think your browser is trying to tell you the fact that it can't open a socket to that address at all. It's like they whammy the NAT somewhere and you can't open any new connections. Any existing connections keep working as long as their sockets aren't closed and reopened. It has to be NAT and not DNS because the DNS entry would be cached locally since I just used it seconds before it started failing.

@al_kali @Brycicle well what the hell did they do push a bad firmware update down the pipe because it's only happened the past month or so. The modems been working fine for years now

@Klaatu @CSBHOTSQUAD come to think of it, my Xbox seems to think my NAT type is moderate, when I’ve never set that myself
