I partially agree. If there is a way to buy the media in a way that actually makes it yours, then you should buy it.Subscription services are crap. So if there's an album I want, I go to the store and buy a CD.Most people find that too much work, so the people that want to own stuff often resort to piracy. And most normies just use streaming services. If a pirate gets a better experience than a legitimate customer, the company doesn't deserve your money. But if a company or individual goes out of their way to give the user the best possible experience, you should have some respect.Bandcamp doesn't use DRM, when you buy a song or album, you can download it in any relevant format whenever you want. GOG only has DRM-free games afaik.Netflix, spotify, microsoft (cause gamepass) and many other companies are the incarnation of evil. Online ads shouldn't exist.

@gianmarcogg03 I say: Please favor artists who don't enforce DRM on you! That's how we'll get change!YouTube's a very funny one here, I don't think most people publishing there care about arguments over whether YouTube is DRM...Once I've found artists, I find I enjoy their stories more than most the stuff Hollywood spews out...

@gianmarcogg03 piracy is an act of reclamation, full-stop. It is frequently the only way some content out there can be consumed now. Of course, that it's not legally available is the fault of dorky corporate bastards like Ubisoft and Nintendo. You'd think they'd learn from the copy protection arms races of the 1980s that DRM is a cost and a waste of money. DRM still exists and pirated copies are frequently BETTER.

@gianmarcogg03 if you are pirating something paid by a multimillionaire you're just redistributing wealth at this point. But better yet is to stop consuming most if not all content paid by multimillionaires that is used to advance their agendas of dominance.

@gianmarcogg03 I don't know why people have to justify it like, it's free stuff just enjoy it lolAlso I will download a game sometimes, just to see how it runs (my GPU isn't the latest etc), if it runs fine and I like the game, I will buy it. If it runs like shit, I will uninstall it because its literally unplayable.I have downloaded BF4, COD BO3 (for the custom zombies maps), Skyrim SE (just to see how it runs), and I liked them all so I bought them. I can justify it because1. I want to see how they run before I spend money2. I want to see if I like it

@gianmarcogg03 Something interesting to note. I've heard of a few cases where devs will intentionally leak the pirated versions of their software as they know it'll be pirated anyway, but at least the devs can guarantee that at least one virus free version will exist. I plan on doing something similar myself where people can build my game from source if they really want it but can't pay for it. That way they can get a guaranteed virus free copy and it helps modders too

Even then I'd base my decision to buy or not on...- Is the product actually any good? I usually try before I buy then reward the producers that rise above the rest.- Are they using my money to attack me? Even if my enemy produces nice stuff I'm not going to give him more power to war against me.

@why@shitposter.club @gianmarcogg03@mastodon.uno I don't really care if someone's message online is too wordy. Words provide vital context to a person's message, especially with an important topic, such as political issues and corporate abuses (which OP is talking about right now). The alternative to this is Twitter, where people cannot really say anything beyond cheap, vapid sound bites due to the shitass character limit.

@limepeep @gianmarcogg03 ya u can write whatever u want.In the format of an image, information isn't restricted to being conveyed by words, you can use diagrams and images to say more. Choices in font and color and background will organize information and make it pop. I can't expect everyone to be able to graphic design a nice looking diagram, but some basic considerations should be universal, especially if you put in the effort to make a picture.OP's image chose none of these options and made the worst possible use of the format:-2 big paragraphs-basic roboto default font-bold for all text-tapering font size to fit the words words words on screen-basic red color on a handful of arbitrary phrases-italics only for the joke on the side-sketch of a generic person not specialized or anything-black text white backgroundWhat does the red text signify? There's red text in small font near the bottom which contradicts intention of red=important. Additionally all the "proof" of why you should be doing this is in a giant list of small font in the middle, NONE of which is highlighted. Portraying lists should be in list form if you want people to read it. Clearly the designer doesn't want the audience to read it, further evidenced by decreasing the font size. What does the font signify? Basic Helvetica derivatives like Roboto in the picture are often criticized for their overuse/ubiquity. I don't want to be part of that trend, I want to emphasize the importance of picking a proper font. If OP were making a text post, our browsers would interpret it in the fonts our frontend/browsers choose. I like monospace stuff myself. If someone is forcing me to read in variable width font, I am given the impression of an expectation around it. The specific font itself, Roboto, is also interesting. It's a Google font. It's practically inseparable from Android where it was first introduced heavily, and has gone on to be the default in all Google products. The creator of the image's website has a giant anti-chromium blocker over the whole page, which clearly signifies a distrust/hateboner against Google's products and ubiquity. It is a free licensed font (Apache 2), but its identity with Google seems to heavily clash with the work's anti-corporate message. Is the choice in font supposed to present the disharmony between a corporate overlord demanding you to behave a certain way, while that way is ironically to rebel against the corporation? Is the compliance with a free licensed font supposed to clash with the anti-law message? This would also explain the use a cc license on the image itself (I will withhold comments on that). What does the sketch signify? It's just a person with a thumbs up. I suppose it implies a casual tone, but is that all? This is the only non-text on the image, but it doesn't demonstrate or enhance the point. Its caption highlights it's not themed in any way. Assuming that was intended (and the joke wasnt just lampshading), is the artist trying to convey that software pirates don't have to look like sea pirates? This would be the most provocative and nuanced message in the entire image but not referenced elsewhere. Spending a couple paragraphs elaborating on that topic alone would distance itself from pic related which has been going around for years now. And yeah let's talk about that message. We are currently on the fediverse. It is a free software platform for outcast nerds who spend 15+ hours per day on the computer. Just about everyone has joined this network over a distrust from Twitter and Tumblr, whose corporate practices introduced limiting content, pushing ads, you name it. Maybe not everyone on fedi are well-versed in the free software movement, but I would bet my life that 98% of fedi have circumvented copyright at least once, and the vast majority of them do it often. We host pirated movie nights, stream copyrighted music, share adblocking tips, this is all just normal basic stuff I see on my feed every day. The message of this picture is to pirate adobe products because adobe bad. It is a lecture to a crowd of pirates telling them they can pirate. Everyone already knows and does this. When the meme attached to this post started circling around it INSTANTLY showed up here and was INESCAPABLE for months. Everyone has seen this take before. Almost everyone agreed with it, others argued to not even use photoshop and install gimp instead. The meme itself uses a copyrighted album cover that does NOT credit the source, and does NOT license the meme itself. Saving and sharing the image is a betrayal of multiple copyright laws, and reposting it also encourages others to do so. Sharing the meme is pure praxis of copyright violation. OP's image specifically targets the moral side. Many normal non-pirates don't have a *moral* qualm about piracy, but *legal* concerns. Scare propaganda has always been like "you could be fined $10 billion for downloading napster, don't do that". You may be morally persuaded by concerned parents/friends but I can't recall having seen anything like that from journalism/propaganda/etc. Some argue that killing cops is always morally correct, but they're not just gonna start doing that because they would be taken to jail. While piracy isn't nearly as serious of a legal offense, nowhere in the image does it specify or clear up this side of the discussion. Nothing here is relevant to any audience that may see it.There is no logical path, no original ideas, no revelation, no productive communication in that preaching-to-the-choir wall of text. The image is not well designed. It does not convey the information in a visible and easy to digest way. It provides no further value by being in image form as opposed to a standard post. It has no substantial value over a years old massively circulated meme, despite coming with 1000x the word count. Your mention about Twitter's character limit is poignant here, since a very common practice on Twitter is to post pointless rants as an image. I've honestly seen better use of the picture-text-rant format on Twitter since it's so common there. Wait, should I be screenshotting this and posting it as a picture?anyways hope ur having a good fridey @limepeep and @gianmarcogg03 im gonna crack open another beer and play some video games how abt u guys
