@GeoffWozniak Probably all of the above.SSHFS works well over the WAN, NFS is good over ethernet but SMB is better over WiFi, WebDAV ... exists? I think NextCloud supports it.

@GeoffWozniak SMB if you're using Windows computers, SSHFS if the load isn't very intense, NFS otherwise.

@izaya This is entirely within the scope of my home network, so no external access.I feel like WebDAV should have been the de facto standard, but instead became the thing everyone cites as a standard but doesn't use.

@GeoffWozniak Could probably get away with NFS for machines on ethernet and SMB for machines on wifi, then. SMB has a fair few quirks due to being primarily used with Windows, but they can be worked around.Certainly better WebDAV than an API built on top of normal HTTP requests, but I don't feel it's a real replacement for any of the other things you listed.

@wizard@xyzzy.link @GeoffWozniak@hackers.town i find samba to be more stable than nfs. which is a shame be cause i'm good friends with a nfs maintainer.so yeah, even in purely unix-like environments, i use smb/cifs.
