@thor Probably not, most likely he just inhaled a bit of dust or something. If it’s persistent, or he has watery eyes/nose, then maybe look into it a bit more. My dog does it occasionally, and it really sounds like he’s going to throw up everywhere, but he never does. I usually figure he’s sniffed something wrong.

@thor I know it’s worrying, but try not to fret. It’s almost certainly nothing.

@thor You mean a hack? Cats do that all the time. It means some of their hair got caught in the throat, and swallowing hair is something cats do naturally.

@LostInCalifornia i'm assuming it was nothing but seeing as he's getting meds and has a wound that needs to heal, i'm a bit more alert.

@thor Cats are still cats even when healing. If it lasted a long time, I’d call the vet, but cats do cat things.

@thor @LostInCalifornia Cat tongues have backwards-facing papillae that make it difficult for them to spit things out. So they tend to swallow hair after they groom themselves, and If he has a wound he might be licking at it.(But its also a risk if you do things like sewing and leave threaded needles lying about.)

@TheInebriati @LostInCalifornia he has stitches. i was a bit mentally blocked so i couldn't get the sweater that the vet put on him on again, but then i heard him gnaw on the stitch. that forced me to overcome my fear. i developed a bit as a person there.

@TheInebriati @LostInCalifornia if he gnaws on it, he'll undo it and then it's back to square one.
