       Ok folks, it's olive plucking season in #Masterton again. A bit soggy for it, but there's a dry patch due Wed/Thur/Fri and we're going for it. Anyone fancies helping out and scoring a few bottles of organic oil, do join in.

       @vik How do you extract the oil? (Olive season's over where I am. I've brined about 5 litres to see us through the coming year.)

       @libroraptor There's a local press that'li do quantities over about 300 kg. I've had the tour and it's interesting in a geeky way.

       @vik I was thinking about doing a little batch in a blender but deterred by the idea of standing at the bench to stone a thousand olives for maybe half a cup of oil.

       @libroraptor They need to be crushed, not blended. Stones are fine. Then run in a slow stand mixer for 30-40 mins before extracting the juice. Juice then separates on standing. If you get 100g oil from a kilo of olives, you're doing well.

       @vik Aha! Let's see if I can remember this next year ... or maybe there's still fruit on the trees. Some of us harvest here but most of them just go to waste.
