Morning. I still have NO idea why I can't get Mastodon to install and run properly. I've followed everything to a T and it just won't let me in.It's so frustrating and no-one seems to have any idea why it's not working.

It's genuinely starting to upset me now. NOTHING I do works. Nothing I change affects anything positively. All I get is either a 403 or a redirect loop.I don't know what to do!

Do you know if it’s a host issue or a Mastodon issue?

@Flaky @cleanycloth this is easier to use https://docs-develop.pleroma.social/backend/installation/debian_based_en/

@PurpCat @Flaky I’ll give that a shot. I’m not particularly tied to Mastodon so I’ll try anything lolThanks!

@cleanycloth @Flaky pleroma is very lightweight but the issue with getting it to the internet is you just need to forward apache/nginx to the port for pleromas server. Thats it.

To add to that; the main thing bloat related with Pleroma is going to be Postgre. Pleroma also has better moderation and privacy options and even has stickers/reacts, along with an actually functional search function that doesn't force you to use easily spammed hashtags.

@cleanycloth I ran into many known-new-install issues last time I tried it and gave up. Just use Pleroma/Akkoma bruh

yeah I had the same issue when trying to self host on OpenBSD a while back. you need the latest elixir and many distros using LTS builds don't care terribly much so sometimes you have to download it yourself even.
