@Terry this is a reasonable and a very serious question, and the answer is that the Ukrainian Spring Offensive (starting in Summer) is failed, the Ukrainians are pretty likely going to lose now, so the UN is hedging its bets instead of eagerly accepting obvious lies like before.Yeah, you guys say the Russians blew the dam, but you guys aren't going to exist next year, and we'll need actual reasons to show the Russians if we want to get anywhere with them.

@apropos @Terry My prediction:Putin marches all the way to the Polish boarder. It might take years. He redraws the Ukrainian boarder at the Dniper river. He says this half of Ukraine is mine now and everything east of the river will be a neutral Ukraine.He will have killed 1 million NATO troops at this point.

@JonnyFever @Terry @apropos i say it goes till 2026 when the reach lyiv and poland gets involved, but by 2024 major resistance stops. they push to the river and surround major cities, before kiev is surround the government flees, once communications fail the various cities become more reasonable and they start making breakaway states with a temporary russian protectorate status

@gav @Terry @apropos IMO it depends on the range of the missiles that NATO positions at the boarders. If Poland points ICBMs at Moscow, Putin will March too the border, but yes I agree about the protectorates. The negotiations get easier and easier as the meat grinder marches forward.

@Terry@bae.st I'm partial to the structural failure theory. The parts of the dam that remain look like they were split or cracked rather than blown up. Of course its possible an initial explosion started a big flow which then broke off more of the structure.

If it WAS blown up then that sort of "cut" look would match controlled demolition rather than big kaboom, which would implicate Russia, but would require them thinking that it denies Ukraine the ability to attack in Kherson area and that this narrowing of the offensive front is worth all the downsides for them. Also possible it was rigged up to explode if absolutely needed but went off by accident, which would be a big fuckup.

@11112011 @Terry The side that's been eagerly lying to you at every single point of the conflict (Ukraine) is in a very tight spot now, so there'll be a lot of propaganda to the effect of "please please please keep giving us material support and don't ask us what happened to the last batch that you gave us". Russia might even see that propaganda as in their interest as the more NATO shit they blow up in these turkey shoots, the less they might have to content with if NATO enters the war proper, or if they 'win' and then have to deal with NATO supporting terrorist cells in the country for the next decade.
