       @Theodor @cardinal_directions how about your opinion on children having purchasing power in the first place?Status quo says parent/guardian has omnipotent control over any funds a child possesses, it isn't legal for them to work 99% of the time (and still requires parental consent, not to mention the consent of a school if they're of schooling age), and parents can arbitrarily decide a child can't use their money at all (or just waste it on anything else even if it's not for the child).

       @cardinal_directions @Theodor  am proof of thatAll my birthday and holiday money from relatives, plus a raffle I won with hundreds in gift cards, and money earned doing chores and yardwork for family.... Parents made it all vanish, would never allow me to even buy dollar store toys or candy or anything.Back in middle school I did the math for just the stuff I could remember from the past few years of money I should've had and it was almost two grand (which is a fucking lot for a kid, especially when minimum wage at the time was like six bucks).

       @bitterblossom @cardinal_directions yeah something like that needs to change. Parents should  be a guide not an arbiter. And in the case of not being a guide the responsibility should in fact be given to the kid.

Parents own them and all their property, and there is nothing institutionalized to protect childrens rights or property.Shit like that literally resulted in Britney spears, even as an adult, being enslaved and isolated by her father on fucking court orders, and he burned all the millions she was earning off being a pop star. Though that's an extreme case since it extended into her adulthood, but it occurs constantly on a smaller scale with basically all children.
