I’ve been using #reddit (for many years as my only social media before mastodon came along) for 11 years & I’ll stop doing so after the 30th of June when Apollo gets shut down. Generally I won’t want to use any big centralized platform for social communication and discussion as I’d very much prefer decentralized services not owned by for-profit companies.

@thees Too bad Reddit decided to go full Twitter. But future shareholders must be pleased & all their new offices around the world cost a lot of money. Time to delete your content on Reddit before it is too late (there are comments predicting Reddit will soon make deleting content impossible).

@louis Especially given that reddit once was a commonlisp project (see http://web.archive.org/web/20210307085921/https://redditblog.com/2005/12/05/on-lisp/ for this, the original sourcecode being available at https://github.com/reddit-archive/reddit1.0) and historically being linked to Aaron Swartz who co-authored RSS 1.0, it's sad to see what the platform has become in 2023. I definitely will delete my accounts and stop using it; as it's even more of a walled garden now then it was before.
