so I wasnt satisfied with the #lvm experience on #ubuntu; the only gui i could find was #kde partition manager, but it didnt even give me any advanced options like the physical arrangement or stripe settings.tried #fedora but the installer was slow and it crashed. so now i'm trying #opensuse, and I decided to try #raid 0 instead of lvm. I've done this before so maybe it'll work again...

HOW DID I DO IT THE FIRST TIME!?I had two 2TB disks in raid 0 booting opensusein btrfs on bios...i remember it auto created a bunch of btrfs volumes, one for boot too? but it was all one big btrfs i think... or was there a separate boot partition of different format?where does MBR even fit into this... I can't use MBR on one of the disks cause it's 4TB, but it seems linux raid thing works below that, so it's just boot sector + raid area. but in the virtual raid volume whats it use for partitions?? gpt? or is it part of raid?

@lamp http://spench.net/drupal/resources/raid0/orderyour MBR is stored on the first block of your disk, so you can grab it with dd (use a linux live CD if you are running windows).Since you are using Raid0, be sure to check this howto for determining the physical order of the disks, and how to determine the location of your MBR. from: https://superuser.com/questions/676361/read-mbr-from-hard-disk-image-file-img

@ringo @lamp gpt tables go at the back of the disk, but there are tools for grabbing that one rather than having to dd it

I dug up the photos of when I did it last time...It appears the disks were formatted MBR and had the linux raid as partitions, so I think the problem now is that it's putting the RAID directly on the disks without the partition table, for some reason. Also, why did it say "Ext4 RAID" that time, but not now?

@lamp using a #RAID without #dmraid only works well with things like #RAID1 on a boot partition since that's the only way to keeo it sync and be bootable...I usually choose to make lvm partitions to do dmraid and also choose to keep at least 25% vacant for #WearLeveling and #GarbageCollection as well as #TRIM to work, and round it down so I can mix & match drivesBut then again going #ZFS is the smarter route...

i can not figure this out...well i figured my way around this shitty partition manager a bit better, so i configured first disk with MBR, others with GPT and the RAID vol with GPT, but I still get this... All disks have partition tables and it should install grub onto the MBR!Also even with GPT there is still a protective MBR that the BIOS can boot just as well... so it does not even matter if it's GPT... ???

i think installer is just retardedit should be installing grub2 to the MBR boot sectorgrub2 can boot from ext4 in raid/lvm etcthis is how it worked beforeit must be getting confused by the mix of disks this time

@lamp Das können Sie vor der eigentlichen Installation einstellen. Aus MBR booten ist da imho nicht der Standard. Siehe oben Installationseinstellungen. Bis dahin sind alles nur Vorschläge und ist alles änderbar.
