What caused the Ukraine dam breach? The question many are asking is how a dam in Southern Ukraine was destroyed - and who destroyed it. Both Ukraine and Russia blame each other - it's reported that US intelligence is pointing to Russia. Nearby a town is drowning under metres of water, and thousands of people are being evacuated. #BBC #Ukraine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac4yDW8rfo0

@stux The US Intelligence also pointed at Russia when they blew up the pipe so... I would be take US Intelligence pointing fingers with a grain of salt especially given USA history a bit further down.

@alex_02 But thats the thing :ablobwink: We don't know 😮 it has been damaged by both sides and the water level was amazingly high.. so it could be a 'break'

@stux there's nothing better than blowing up your own damned dam. For fucks sake, for how long will the world take Russian claims seriously? They are just spamming bullshit, wake the fuck up.

@stux yeah... knowing dams when engineered correctly they can withstand a lot since their aggressor is water which is very lethal, but even the best engineering can't last forever. My problem is the USA is basically instigating and keeps on instigating which is not a good idea with a country like Russia.

@alex_02 I think this dam was really dammed indeed :sad_dog: We shall see I think!I think that goes with every side in 'war news' :ablobwink: Always judge for yourself and maybe lookup multiple sourcesBut more info can be a good thing, can help to evaluate better on an outcome perhaps

@stuxWhoever did this is a psychopath. Wildlife is dying because of this, people are drowning, houses are destroyed or ruined, and, more important for the long term: mines, including antipersonnel mines are being scattered all over the place and sometimes randomly exploding, triggered by the water flow. This is a disaster and a crime against humanity and environment

@stux “#Russia has previously carried out several attacks on dams throughout Ukraine since the invasion, causing widespread flooding and disrupting power supplies.” https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-65818705.ampIn 1941, the Soviet Union destroyed the Dnipro #dam in an attempt to slow the Nazis’ sweeping advance through #Ukraine.https://foreignpolicy.com/2023/06/06/russia-ukraine-nova-kakhovka-dam-flood/

@stux It's a vital piece of infrastructure for Ukraine. The lake behind it is used for drinking water, irrigation and cooling the power plant in Energodar.Rebuilding that dam will take years, during which water supply will stay disrupted. It fits well with the spiteful mass destruction Russia has been doing all along.Unless there's a good reason to believe otherwise, like published evidence, it's really safe to believe Russia is doing whatever bad thing. They have a history.

@stux "the most realistic version: the damaged dam, constantly under immense water pressure, likely intensified by heavy rainfall last week, could not withstand the pressure and began to deteriorate more rapidly"https://notes.citeam.org/dispatch-jun-5-6

@stux Thinking well...The side that exploded was the Russian side The Russians would not allow anyone to inspect or maintain the dam. If the dam burst due to lack of maintenance, it's the Russians' fault If it was dynamite, it was the Russians who implanted it By all indications, the Ukrainians do not have the material capable of breaking the dam from a distance as it was.

@stux Please look at the issue critically. Who had possession of the dam? How much explosive would be necessary to destroy hundreds of meters of it? Who had the most to gain from the destruction? Where is the Russian recording of the attacks on the dam if Ukraine was responsible?

@stux @alex_02 The thing is, we know who placed (at least) two trucks of explosions on the dam.And we know who controlled control rooms, and raised the water."both sides" here is bullshit russians want you to believe.

@stux I mean, if Russia wasn't in Ukraine, the dam would still be intact. There is no one to blame but Russia.
