Are you living in a place where you suddenly have to learn about air purifiers FOR SOME REASON? Here's a tip for buying air purifiers: ignore their "good for rooms up to X square feet" and look for the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). That's the actual capacity of the unit. The AHAM industry standard is for CADR to be 2/3 of your room area, although not every air purifier marketing line follows that rule: https://ahamverifide.org/ahams-air-filtration-standards/#smoke

Oh hey and it says right on that page for wildfire smoke the rating should be the same as the room area. So if you have a 10x12 foot room of standard height, look for an air purifier of 120 CADR.

Here's an example of extremely misleading labeling:https://www.amazon.com/AROEVE-Purifiers-Cleaner-Coverage-Bedroom-dp-B0BYYQ5YVJ/dp/B0BYYQ5YVJ/ref=dp_ob_title_hpcDoes up to 1095 square feet! Only $99.99! What a deal! But wait, its CADR is 220 cubic meters/hour, which is 129 cubic feet/minute. So the room size this covers, under the AHAM standard, is 129 square feet for smoke, or 193 square feet for regular use. Buyer beware.

To keep 1095 square feet of home clean you would need two or three of these, so you're looking at $900 - $1500 to do it right.https://www.whirlpoolairpurifiers.com/product/whirlpool-wppro2000-whispure-air-purifier-gunmetal/

Or just spend $100 or so on materials to make a bunch of these: https://cleanaircrew.org/box-fan-filters/

Looking at the AQI map (https://map.purpleair.com/1/mAQI/a10/p604800/cC0?select=58069#8.85/40.6391/-74.3565) I see numbers over 300 in NYC. Breathing air at AQI 427 is equivalent to smoking 24 cigarettes per day, according to this calculator: https://jasminedevv.github.io/AQI2cigarettes/Take it seriously, people. Smoky air literally kills, by taking time off your life.
