I don't think burning bridges with Unreal will actually hurt Apple's headset, especially when they're not marketing it as a VR/gaming device.I can find _zero_ AR experiences built in Unreal.Every single app in https://vrscout.com/news/five-cool-mixed-reality-games-apps-for-quest-pro/ is Unity, as far as I can tell.Even most VR experiences on Oculus Quest are Unity.(According to Unity themselves, they power 90% of AR experiences on headsets: https://create.unity.com/unity-pro-for-industrial)https://mastodon.social/@stroughtonsmith/110503248786550037

@zhuowei Seems like the Unreal Engine bridge somehow isn’t itself burned, as per this announcement just 3 weeks ago, so although Unreal didn’t get a mention in the keynote it won’t surprise me if it’s possible to eventually make apps with Unreal for the Vision Pro. https://www.engadget.com/apple-silicon-macs-now-natively-support-unreal-engine-5-124257710.html

@zachnfine It doesn't seem like Epic got to work with Apple to optimize in advance, though: Unity demoed Apple Silicon support at WWDC 2020 when Apple announced Apple Silicon (https://blog.unity.com/technology/unity-coming-to-apple-silicon), and this year's WWDC has sessions on using Unity for visionOS. Nothing like that for Unreal.

@zachnfine And yes, of course you can make apps with Unreal Engine on visionOS:Unreal is shared source and already supports iOS/Metal, so I expect some hobbyist to port it to run in Full Space (single app mode with Metal) the day after the SDK drops,Give them another week and they'll get it running in Shared Space (multi-app mode with all engines rendering through RealityKit).Still, it's quite a contrast to how Apple treats Unity.

@zhuowei I don’t think apple silicon has hardware support for all the fanciest new features of unreal (nanite, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, etc). So maybe there’s be less interest in doing a huge demo that highlights that Nvidia is not on the platform?

@zachnfine There were rumours that the iPhone 14 Pro was supposed to get hardware ray tracing but was cancelled (https://www.engadget.com/apple-a16-chip-ray-tracing-mistakes-180839937.html). Maybe it'll be ready for M3?
