Something to consider reading #AppleVisionPro first looks: Do you remember who slammed the iPhone? Yes. Do you remember who praised the Newton? No.The reputation cost of being wrong is far worse if you pan something that turns out to be a hit. So there’s a career incentive to praise a product you’re unsure about, especially from the world’s biggest consumer tech company.

@bouncing I loved the Newton *and* the iPhone. But I really don't think the Vision Pro is going anywhere.Fortunately I'm at the stage in my career where I don't have to worry about reputational damage. Apple ain't inviting me to any events any time ever.

@bouncing There's even a clip of me in 1994 holding up a Newton and saying "add always on Internet to this thing and you've got something."I saw it for what it was: the first step in a long journey. And maybe that's true for the Vision Pro. But I really don't think people want to strap screens to their heads. And I think we're more than 10 years away from lightweight AR spectacles. Wake me up when we get there, ok?

@leo I can’t argue with that.I work remotely on my laptop all the time, and I’d love a huge display on my face like @MikeElgan suggested in his recent article, but can I use it for more than an hour without fatigue? If this thing gets uncomfortable to use after a even 3-4 hours, it isn’t something I can use professionally. Also, I’m not sure I want to “be that guy” with the $3500 face goggles.

@leo I agree on this. The Vision Pro feels like it’ll be used for some random attraction at a Disney theme park and not much else.
