According to an interview on RNZ, the NZ DIA (Department of Internal Affairs)..."... are formulating some advice on how the public service would be able to utilise the benefits of AI..." https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/focusonpolitics/audio/2018892689/politicians-tackling-ai-regulation-but-will-it-be-too-lateAnyone know how we feed into that? #RNZ #podcasts #FocusOnPolitics #AI #ML #MOLE #Aotearoa #NZ #DIA

@strypey this would require politicians actually understand computers in the first place, which they categorically never have.

@strypey case in point breaking open an envelope in snail mail is a crime but they openly scoop e-mail with impunity. there is clearly no understanding how to properly analogue digital actions back to physical ones (where wiretapping is a crime, snooping mail is a crime, breaching a building requires warrants, and being able to exclusively own math proofs and algorithms is highly prblematic.)so given they cannot fathom the basic stuff, i have less than zero faith that they can begin to understand AI enough to meaningfully regulate it.if one cannot understand an electronic mail is the same as a physical mail, and treat it as such, it's hopeless to try to analogue an entire human intelligence but its a computer.

@icedquinn> an entire human intelligence but its a computer... is a wonderful dream, but it has nothing to do with the MOLE* technology we're talking about.* (Machine Only Learning Engine)

@strypey The DIA site isn't particularly well organised so you end up having to monitor https://www.dia.govt.nz/Publications-and-Reports and keep an eye on the 'Public Consultations' section...If it is already in flight as a Bill or something then there's the good old https://www.parliament.nz/en/pb/sc/make-a-submission/

@carl_klitscher>.If it is already in flight as a Bill or somethingSounds like it's just ministerial advice at the moment.
