So, for all those #Honda #Odessey 2020 owners whose Nav displays go nuts & starts cycling between brightness-high/brightness-med/screen-off continually in the middle of driving, I've found your answer! In the morning, tap the capacitive brightness next to the screen to lower the display level to med-high instead of full-brightness. This is not much difference to the eye but it stops the display from heating up & the capacitive button from firing off randomly! 🧵 (a @siracusa level investigation)

@siracusa So, symptoms: My nav display would randomly go nuts throughout the day. A simple ignition stop-open-car-door-ignition-start used to solve it. Then all of the sudden it didn't.I didn't add up all the things it took for this to get worse until I - get this - MOVED MY PHONE MOUNT!So following @siracusa's advice I bought a mag-safe car mount for iPhone 14. I - as you do - put it on the vent to right of steering wheel. Fast-forward from Oct to spring in Florida (Feb)...

@siracusa Air conditioning began to be used a LOT.You know what happens to vent-mounted-iPhones when air conditioning is turned on? YES, they get cooled off by the vent. This is good. It prolongs the life of your battery and speeds up charging by lowering the temp of the battery whilst charging. BUT you know what else happens? It diverts cool air to right & left of phone as air hits back of phone and is re-routed to the side. What is to the side of phone? (I hear you say).

@siracusa Well, that is interesting! It's the capacitive buttons for "Home" and "Screen Brightness".Nothing happened until A/C began to cool the surface of the side of the Nav screen...then all hell broke loose & the capacitive button started firing all by itself. Hot LCD behind glass PLUS surface of glass cooling made the capacitive connection!Turning brightness down on LCD solved this problem AND I also moved phone to vent left of steering wheel instead of right (I hate this positioning!)

@siracusa Well, it's been 7 days and nothing has happened yet. ie: no screen weirdness! I'm gonna wait another 7 days and move phone back to right of wheel with screen brightness lowered to see if the temp difference is low enough to stop the capacitive button from firing when A/C air hits it.Pray for me, please!End of 🧵
