Why were F-16s used to intercept this non responsive flight over DC? The China balloon got the F-22, seems like you would want something more sophisticated defending DC. There was some discussion about whether the whole plane was supersonic, or if it was transonic and only the air over certain parts of the airframe were supersonic. The former would be louder, I think.

@LouisvilleNham @melodiousowls Both the 16 and the 22 could have handled that balloon the same, the 15, 18 and 14 as well and many older ones, but Langley got the tasking and Langley has 22s.

@Dangerous_Clams @melodiousowls The o ly assets the keep armed and ready to.sceamble that quickly are mostly F16s, and a few F15s.Cost issue, srambling an armed F22 takes a special order and rime in the lower 48.
