***** How #Google employees are reacting to YouTube permitting 2020 election fraud videos *****Just FYI, I'm hearing from numerous Googlers I know who are absolutely dismayed and embarrassed by the decision to permit 2020 election fraud videos back on #YouTube. These denials led directly to the Jan 6 insurrection and the violence that resulted -- not to mention almost destroying our democracy -- and they feel, as do I, that Google's claim that this is just ordinary political speech is self-serving, hypocritical, and vastly dangerous.Google has been making a series of serious unforced errors lately in this toxic political environment. This does not bode well for its future, for its users, or for the world at large. I find this extremely distressing. -L

@lauren do you realise google is complicit in the denial of free speech? Of democracy? Through the censoring of videos, google denies it’s users the right to discourse, free thinking and debate. The fact that new information is allowed to be disseminated on a platform that promotes “freedom of expression” should not be an issue or a subject of shame. The issue becomes apparent when people like you censor and shout down, while not allowing open discussion.

@BoredomFestival I saw Digital Equipment Corp (DEC) go from a force of nature to nothing. Same effectively for Bell Labs. I have long been concerned that the same could happen to Google, but I am stunned at how rapidly the situation appears to be deteriorating.

@dsmdexter @VHasch This is not the only recent problematic decision. They recently brought back Trump's YT account, and their AI activities show signs of premature deployment for competitive reasons. And more. Their user communications are now worse than ever, and I've been critical of these for many years (both publicly, and internally during those periods I worked inside G in the past).

@dsmdexter @VHasch As I've frequently said, DEC once appeared to be a force of nature. Hell, I rode their helicopter between facilities and Logan. Now it's as if they never existed. Pretty much the same for Bell Labs now -- a shadow of its former glory.

@lauren @BoredomFestival Except Google only ever created one thing, great search. Everything else they either copied (Hotmail for Gmail) or purchased (YouTube). Most everything they have built has been a failure (Google+ and many more now defunct products).

@lauren @dsmdexter There's also been a big shift in advertisers on YouTube just in the past couple of months. There are a lot less mainstream companies and a lot more weird stuff. Apples, cashews, and peanuts are bad, and gun and knife accessories are good. Today, there's even Tucker Carlson going on about credit card debt. 🤢
