WIth Reddit self-destructing, a lot of people have been wondering about alternatives on the Fediverse.I do NOT recommend Lemmy. I have serious long-standing deep concerns about the developers on a thread from 2021 at https://mstdn.social/@feditips/106835057054633379As far as I know, nothing has changed since then and Lemmy's issues remain.Alternatively there's Kbin (https://kbin.pub/en/features), which seems less problematic, though it mentions a cryptocurrency on its website :/#Reddit #Kbin #Lemmy #Fediverse

@thatguyoverthere @jeffcliff I don't think @feditips can see us, but even if they can, they don't think about the way that cryptocurrencies can be tools to liberate those who have been financially suppressed. The official line is that cryptocurrencies are all scammers and they are boiling the oceans, and not a lot of pundits can see past that to recognize that the banking system has harmed some people as much as it has helped others.

@feditips What's wrong with lemi, like, the code itself? The devs, as you said on that thread, have lots of issues. However, is that a platform's fault? why not, like, just make our own instances or whatever, where that shit isn't allowed anywhere? If twitter would be open source tomorrow and would be implementing activity pub, hell yeah, I'm all for people making instances, though in practice mastodon has the most important features of twitter anyway, so yeah, twitter doesn't accomplish much at this point anyway, open sourced or not.

@feditips damn, you know, I tried to follow your advise and used /kbin but that federates with lemmy.ml I saw someone posting a link to the "China tightens access to Tiananmen Square while 32 are detained in Hong Kong (npr.org)" article and suddenly TS massacre deniers craws out of the woods with @lemmy.ml usernames and telling people to perhaps use a different instance to post anti-china links because they don't want to be defederated by lemmygrad and even worse posting outright denial.

@feditips there is one problem though, because lemmy.ml is the main instance anyone who wants to try it will end up looking through the posts there and eventually see those posts there and will be so put off it that they will just not use the software at all.I know I spent only a short time on /kbin and I'm already so angry at those people that I don't see myself setting up any of those link aggregators from the fediverse for now.
