@adam in my opinion NAS should be run by No Agenda show not by external guy. It’s not about “you get what you pay for” because many donated already to No Agenda but about unreliability, of all things, on show days what hinders cooperation among NA artists for example.Yez, I know, Mastodon scales up badly but I’m just saying how it is.

Eventually it self-destructs and they move on.NAS had a golden age and it may now be ending. Does the social media presence actually aid the podcast?People get sick of the constant load of problems for no payoff and with no escape, and Mastodon ain't Lotus Notes, so it's doubly flaky.

It's harder to use at first and requires a bit of effort but the people running it and the infrastructure it runs on has a sustainable model for funding.If the economics of running a service aren't there and if the people using it won't pay for it, the service must fail.

@csb I think for a use case like this it makes sense for a few reasons. It’s way easier to run for a server admin and it has a financial incentive baked into it for private relay runners.

@adam @DaveHamilton @csb Most people do not know what it is like to be hosting a resource.I have done it for over thirty years at this point.It is like having a retarded child with a life-threatening condition at home.Anywhere you are, just as you are getting comfortable... it goes down for reasons unknown and you have to rush back to it.At some point, you are tempted to just have another drink and say everything will fix itself, then amble home to bury the remains a week later.

@adam @DaveHamilton @csb It's worth noting that 90% of the time, the reasons services go down are not only your fault but out of your control.Some vital service, library, or script has been altered by someone else as part of their upgrade cycle, and it breaks everything... but only for the configuration you have, which is only 20% of the audience so "no one" notices.

@csb @dave I agree. Startup costs for the end-user on Nostr in terms of time are too high for it to ever be anything but niche.It is also the worst kind of niche, namely one that requires buy-in of a sort.It has some cool aspects but I think it has a difficult adoption curve.

@csb @eriner @adam he has a point. if you are donating to something you are contributing to keeping it running. you're not paying someones salary to sit around and fix shit 24/7. i dont take a pay for poast and i am generally available to about 10 people 24/7 so if something breaks i usually tend to it but you can't expect people who work a full time job in addition to this to drop everything because you made a donation to a cause.
