@clive Reminded of an SF novel -- which one escapes me at the moment -- in which sexually active people use "interfaces" for protection, rather like (male and female) condoms but enhanced with stimulating effects. One guy is so annoyed with his date insisting that they both use theirs at the same time that he simply puts them together and switches them on and the two of them dumbly watch the things go at it.

@clive At my recent employment* they seemed to want us to watch a video from Google—I think it was Google—so I did. And it actually *showed* the so-called AI writing e-mail, and later it showed the same software reading e-mail.Either the folk who made that aren't too bright, or they think we aren't.In retrospect, seems both are true.* I was part of Shopify's Big 20% Off Special! at the beginning of May, so week-from-today equity vesting for me!

@clive @kyleve I’m not sure how much that will differ from my life now, when most of my emails are machine-generated dreck and I spend hours setting up filters to clear them from my inbox without me having to see them.

@clive Great article! Heard it first on Ezra Klein’s podcast which is excellent. It’s good that these points are being brought forward; so many are still stuck asking the wrong questions whether AI can replace humans or not.We really need to think not in terms of technological capacity but what is appropriate for us to merge our society with.Thanks for #writing this!

@clive people are 100% gonna use generative AI in the stupidest possible ways. see for reference e-mail and telephone scam calls. hopefully most people will grow out of it.
