       @ralphw if u are not inclined to make your own, then yea...with the understanding that raw wood or stone is porous and can hold bacteria more.If not cutting on block then you can put a coating to fill the holes.

       @ralphw I used one from HD, which is likely of similar quality to make a counter top that floats over the washer/dryer. The wife loves it. Understand that it's not being used as hard as if it was in the kitchen.

       @CattleBaron we wouldn't be cutting directly on the countertop. I think Tung oil would be the best sealant.

       @ralphw Test the density of the piece you are buying. Some are made with very soft woods. If you can dent it with a simple press of a key or larger item, that means your daily use will destroy it.
