@twizzay It's a shame but all good things must come to an end. I doubt Reddit will retract this and I'm betting that Apollo, along with other 3rd party apps, will just fade away. I believe the starting date for all this is 7/31? I just went back through my RSS feeds and got it set back up for tech news. RSS and Mastodon will be my only "social media" sites from now on.

@teamtuck Yeah this was basically Christian announcing that Apollo is going to die. Theres no way he can pay 20 million a year for the API and still stay afloat.

@teamtuck Fedi is definitely not a bad way to go. This place has basically been my socialsphere for about 2 years now. (Along with IRC). I have made some great friends here and much prefer this place to any other social network I was ever on. (and I tried them all back when I was working in Public Relations.)

@twizzay That’s what I’m finding out. The big thing for me was that I just lurked, I rarely posted or commented so the community aspect wasn’t there. It was an decent news source and a great way to find new apps and sites. But, all good things must come to an end. I just need to find a good way to expand my horizons via my personal instance through relays I guess.

@teamtuck :redditGold: Yeah, that's mostly what I used it for. I don't think I have posted on Reddit in years. :reddit: I used it as a way to find reviews for things I was thinking about trying out. Or just another platform to consume content on. But I don't consider that a very healthy online habit.I'm quite happy to leave it behind.

@twizzay Yeah I bet that it would be a much healthier thing to leave Reddit behind lol. My biggest problem leaving is that I mostly use Reddit for doggo, earth, cabin, and tech pics/GIFs. Where am I gonna get those? RSS is horrible for media IMO. Thoughts?

People trying to find ways to connect with content creators. :at_marcySigh: I don't really share this concern so, I may not really be the best person to ask. But you could take a look at @dansup's pixelfed. maybe?There's also always imgur. Which is a pretty good photo sharing site. I used to use that one a LOT. pretty underrated. A lot of redditors also have accounts there so it may begin to grow now that the API rules are changing.
