@esden wouldn't be doable faster with a laser cutter at your local fablab?

@mmu_man 1) they are not just flat pieces of plastic. 2) the laser cutters at our local "fab lab" are either not working, weak or a pain in the ass to use. 3) I can run and tend to it at home, in between other tasks, no need to leave the house resulting in much less time overhead.

@esden ah ok, just from the video it wasn't obvious.Yeah I still have to try ours but from what I've seen it works quite well, so maybe I'll be lucky.

@mmu_man Unfortunately, I am coming to the conclusion that it makes much more sense to have the tools instead of relying on the fab lab. (too many times I went to the fab lab to just find out the tool I need in "currently broken" :( ) I do have a laser cutter purchase on my radar as it is useful for a bunch of other projects. Jigs, attachments, mockups and so on. (I know not everyone has the space for that ... I just wish folks would care for the fab lab tools more... :( )

@esden well it depends also how they stock replacement parts, how well the machine is built…Ours was out for some days due to a bad PSU… seller sent another one… too weak… and another one that finally worked 🤷 But it's not the kind you can have in your living room anyway:http://fabmanager.fabrico.fr/#!/machines/decoupeuse-laser

@mmu_man I already need a workshop for the machines I have. The desktop laser cutters are quite nice these days. This is what I am considering. And would be able to do pretty much everything I need it for, without taking up a huge floor space.

@esden well I'm quite privileged to have the fablab 200m from home here… But since I lent them most of my tools I never know where they are 😄

@mmu_man ohh that is fantastic! Walking distance to the fab lab is essentially having a workshop right there. (tracking tools when there is a herd of other people moving them around sounds a bit like a challenge ;) )

For some context. Here is a rendering of the Black Magic Probe case. #CAD #3DModel #rendering
