@NovaNaturalist @gemelliz my understanding is that Smith stuck to moderate messaging during the campaign. This is what allowed her to win. If she deviates from this, the UCP will be in deep trouble.

@Anne_Canada @NovaNaturalist It worked in Ontario. Doug Ford is bulldozing the province while ramming through for-profit healthcare and there’s not a darn thing we can do to stop him. Doubt that Smith is very worried.

The only real checks and balances on majority governments in Canada are elections; she's been given free reign to do what she wants up until that point.Ford has been governing in Ontario doing a ton of stuff that everyone who watched him could see was on his agenda, but was NEVER part of his campaign. Smith will do at least that much.

@adammiller @Anne_Canada @NovaNaturalist Agree. However, once UCP are in “deep trouble” the damage will already be in place. Ford still has three more years to lock Ontario into massive changes that no one voted for. He’s also extensively rewritten legislation to suit his agenda. Reversing and restoring will be costly and lengthy.
