⚠️Google is raging war on the FOSS Aurora Store⚠️Aurora is a staple tool for people looking to de-google their Android devices. Currently, the anonymous login functionality is broken (unclear if intentional by Google) - and they’re now deleting some Google accounts used through Aurora. Proceed with caution, spread the word, and support the Aurora project if you’re able 🚀 More info: https://discuss.techlore.tech/t/aurora-store-anonymous-logins-are-removed-indefinitely/3817/12

@vandys @techlore from what i have been told, all the bad stuff is built directly into all the hardware, and does not get disabled with such efforts.

@ringo @vandys @techlore nah most of the bad stuff comes from GMS, so removing it is how android tracking gets stopped, otherwise people would he selling phones without it

@techlore Interesting. I tried getting #Aurora on my new #LineageOS tablet but it didn’t work at all so I deleted it.

@techlore I’m a fan of Aurora, but I don’t think any of us didn’t expect this sort of thing. Their entire purpose is to bypass Google’s Play Store while accessing Play Store data (apps). It’s not entirely unreasonable for Google to work to prevent “unauthorised” access.Aurora is important, but the ideal we need is for app vendors to adopts alternative stores (not fDroid as many are legitimately & reasonably commercial).Still, will be interested to see how Aurora works around this!

@AFx fdroid has no route for an app developer to sell their app directly to the user.

@wiredfire @AFx Selling an app to a user requires some kind of DRM, which, if not proprietary is always easy to bypass. That's why that doesn't make much sense on F-Droid.But what's possible is to have your app, which can only talk to your backend service over a paid plan or other kinds of paid access, compiled and listed in there.Or the other way: Collect money voluntarily from app users and have that shown in F-Droid, too.Imho a pretty good way, which get's the app into hands of peoplke who need it and also return some money if they want to.But yes, it won't be as much as if you whould only sell it on a big platform, that's for sure.

@alsternerd@social.alster.space @wiredfire@mas.to @AFx@mamot.fr Selling an app to a user requires some kind of DRMAbsolutely not. Many companies will want you to believe this, but it's not required and often hinders users more than it "stops piracy". You're setting a very high bar for dumb takes this week.if not proprietary is always easy to bypass.Having experienced games when I was younger, you can drop the "proprietary" part. DRM seems to be easy to bypass at any given time, again, only harming the "legitimate" users once the company shuts down their verification servers.
