       So you've heard how they're now "whipping" for votes for the fascist-friendly debt deal, right? And you probably  know that there's a position called "Whip" in the congressional context as well.Have you ever thought about where that term comes from?The first image is of a politician violently lashing other politicians to torture them into a desired vote.Actually, the term comes from British foxhunting, where keeping the dogs together is called "whipping in" -- the terminology was adopted by the British Parliament, then by Congress here.But where does the term "whipping in" come from?Oh, from sometimes using an actual whip to flog and control the dogs.Yep.
