I suppose it brings less legal hassle if you are able to monetize out of it.But currently from what I'm seeing that most major instance either try to pull income from secondary sources for VPS services, or donations.Open source makes it hard to monetize, since it brings into ethics and how original devs like Alex and Iain should get cuts.The only way I can see additional monetization is if some branches out and adds the option to pull ads in. As of right now having an instance is just no more of owning a forum.It's more recreation and community building than a business.

C-corps act as global citizens so you can have an American C-Corp registered as a foreign entity.You can also use an international hiring service to hire an assistant from some other country and appointment them as the registered agent and have them do all communication.I have a friend who’s getting sued in the US but his company’s registered agent is in Thailand. Imagine the suing companies dismay when they need to find some random person in another country and legally serve them. It creates protection because of the sheer cost just to bring you to court - have an assistant dictate all of your emails, etc. again, perfectly legal and annoying. 😅
