@GluedToTheScreen Baltimore, New Orleans, and (East) Memphis might be added... although those cities have a smaller population... except for St. Louis. St. Louis' population has been dropping like a dead weight for a while.

sounds like it's the "strict" part you point out as inaccurate... @Muppet1856 ... they have gun laws, perhaps even strict ones, but it is the ENFORCEMENT of said laws that is key.A law without enforcement is only a suggestion.

@GluedToTheScreen Note... Philadelphia does not have liberal gun bans like NYC, Baltimore, or DC. Because of pre-emption, Philadelphians have the same gun rights as everyone in the state of Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania may not have constitutional carry, but you are far more free to defend yourself with a gun in Philly than if you have a knife on you to slice an apple. https://www.phila.gov/2018-03-20-gun-control-policies/

@GluedToTheScreen I don't know why pre-emption laws apply to cell phone and guns, but not to possession of knives in Philly. Perhaps not many people are willing to sue for knives like they are willing to sue for guns. Doug Ritter is one of the few knife advocates unlike the firearm industry which has created another industry in the legal realm to support it.

@GluedToTheScreen oh. We have an enforcement issue here for sure. You should hear about the MSU shooter. He was picked up on a felony gun possession crime, plead down to a misdemeanor, which then allowed him to buy the guns legally that he used to shoot up the school.
