@techlore It is hard to take your privacy tools assessments seriously , when you are clearly biased with your recommendations or services you advertise, you dislike & barely mention #matrix, even if it is a superior solution to @signalapp as the last requires not only phone registration but also google services (for both google-play and apk), servers aren't decentralized but hosted in Amazon's USA + service side isn't fully opensource, and Groups v2 is a privacy downgrade + many more shady stuff

@hecklerMatrix does not encrypt all messages (including group messages) by default. Granted, I'm not the biggest supporter of Signal either, as you raise some good points. However, what I mentioned is likely the reason Henry disliked Matrix. (For the record, I think at this point the best way to message is XMPP because it is similarly decentralized, while not being run by a foundation that collaborates with law enforcement like Matrix)Ultimately, it's best to be critical of any protocol or service and find the one that works out best for you.

@ch0ccyra1n Matrix actually does e2ee by default provided the end devices support encryption, with matrix your are in control of your communication how private or anonymous you want them to be, you adjust the dials to your needs (same as xmpp)the problem with @techlore_channel its hard for users not versed enough in privacy to distinguish between objective assessments and bias) like when @protonmail ip recording scandal broke out, he brushed it off and made a promotional video for them instead

@heckler@mastodon.xyz @ch0ccyra1n@emeraldsocial.org He does constantly say that no company will break the law for you. If the government requires that they log something, they can fight it, but in the end they must follow whatever the end decision is or pull out of that country. Matrix's e2ee leaks a lot of metadata which Signal is designed to combat. Also the servers don't matter as much because it is client side encrypted.

@heckler @techlore @signalapp You can sideload their apk without google services, at least, https://signal.org/android/apk/ . But phone number argument doesn't disappear.

@nm0i @techlore @signalapp Installed their apk on an old android with disabled play services , signal app didn't even allow me to register it kept asking to update my google services and then it quits. I don't know why the apk complains about gplay services while they claim it is not making use of it. very weird

@heckler @techlore @signalapp Weird, I don't have this behavior on lineageos. Though honestly phone number argument is so significant for me - partially because I changed numbers thanks to spammers few times in recent years - if I had no contacts that insist on using signal/telegram I would not have used these apps at all.
