Perhaps a little tip for other #Mastodon admins and moderatorsFor the 'typical' gambling and business spam accounts, be sure to always checkout an IPv4 IP to see if there are more spam accounts so you can block the IP also!IPv6 is much less frequent but if you have the time check it all :nkoHammer: These accounts are often from Vietnamse gambling sites and don't do much but I simply don't want them on here..It only adds to a less accurate user count for exampleAnd it's spam.. so!

@stux For IPv6, I suggest you block at least their /48 block. Every ISP I've heard of issues a /48 or a /64 to their residential customers

@stux Yeah, I do that too. Or an account I'm not terribly sure about, check common IP suspended accounts helps too. (Yes, I pre-emptively quickly check new accounts in the account list in the admin screen, often suspend before they even get the chance to spam)

@stux @privateger would it help to set a rel no follow on all outgoing links, mastodon-wide? It would have no user impact but remove incentive for spammers to place these links.I seem to remember a lot of forums did this in the day. Not sure. https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Attributes/rel

@stux The problem with ipv6 is also just because it's a different computer, it already has a different IP even though it's on the same network

@stux Yes this takes some time every day removing those. And I’m away for a couple of days so I will have to catch up when I’m back 🤪

@stux we’ve found that checking out the IP band also helps find other spam. Just dropping the last octet and searching /8 often helps us see dozens more of them. Admittedly, being a geographic instance makes the ip range blocks easier.. but sometimes I’ll find whole /128 bands of these spam accounts.
