       @lauren You are correct, because neither DeSantis nor the rich people he serves really mean a flat tax when they say " flat tax". What they mean is a single rate on earned income above some zero bracket amount. Since they don't pay very much tax and earned income, relative to what they actually earn, they're thrilled by it. If it were an actual flat tax, with no capital gains differential, no credits for all sorts of garbage, etc they wouldn't like it at all.

       @lauren A flat tax would be fine if there weren't loopholes that only the rich can enjoy and if it was based on income rather than a tax on purchases. The majority of purchases for the working class are necessities, while necessities are only a minor percent of purchases for the rich.

       @greatgrandma That doesn't even fix it. The wealthy tend to have most of their wealth tied up in investments that escape those models.

       @lauren In my mind "flat tax" means every cent that you have control over. It means one line on your tax form. Nothing else. Nadda. Everyone the same. Can't have it in a country built on elitism and greed. In a country where money is called "free speech" it isn't going to happen.
