I know it's there, but I'm always a bit taken by surprise by just how much contempt for other players lurks under the surface of rpg enthusiasts when discussing games or modes of play outside of their preferences. It's never enough to say, "that's not my thing." There has to be an argument for things you don't like to be an intellectual and moral failure on the part of other players/designers/people and it's so gross

@restlesshead I love to tweak the Hell out of monsters and pile on variant/alternate rules in #Pathfinder1e, so I'm very accustomed to my gaming preference being an object of contempt outside of very homebrew-specific groups. I'm in multiple online #TTRPG groups, but I usually only post my changes on "OPEN" social media, rather than in the RPG-specific groups because it receives less negative commentary that way. I try not to criticize other play-styles; I know what that's like.

@munroe @restlesshead I find the #ttrpg groups on FB very toxic and I now completely avoid them.Dice.camp is the way to go :-)

@kingu @restlesshead I'm actually in many of those. Like three Pathfinder-specific ones (one Pathfinder1e), but a lot of them are "generic" D&D or TTRPG groups, which are mostly a mix of D&D5e and AD&D2e, with a little OSR. I participate in system-neutral conversations in those groups, though I occasionally do look-up 5e rules to answer rules questions even though I don't actually own or play 5e. I don't hate the system, I just prefer the one I use; I can look up/explain things though.
