       I wake up in the morning, and the first thing I read is about the Portuguese colonizing the islands off the coast of Africa, forcing Jews to convert, stealing their kids, sending them to Sao Tome to live, and sending AFRICAN WOMEN there to be sexual slaves. Creating a creole community, multiracial, multilingual, multireligious - all horribly exploited by the same people who gave us Devin Nunes.

       Naturally, this fills me with rage and fury, and I think, oh, I'll go look at the news, surely there's something to catch up with.Yes, U.S. police shot an 11-y.o. BOY who was trying to protect his mother from an incident of possible abuse. Yes, he's Black. The story that began in Portugal in the 1400s is still poisoning the WORLD in the 2020s. Why did he shoot a child? Same reason the Portuguese BOUGHT and SOLD people, I guess.

       It's making me so angry and wrought reading this, but I must go on. I don't know how Black folks haven't killed all the rest of us already - although my people had a much smaller role in mistreating or exploiting Black people, they are not completely innocent - how do you read about these things without going mad? At any rate, please read "Born in Blackness." And then, please read "Before the Mayflower: A History of Black America." It arrived yesterday.
