Of course OpenAI has to stop doing business in the EU if they can't comply with the laws here. Why is that a scandal or debate?

@tante Weil es sowohl Deppen, als auch Personen mit malicious intent gibt, die OpenAI laut als "Fortschritt" proklamieren. Das war bei Cryto Currencies & NFT so, das war bei Web 3.0, das war bei "Cloud"-Lösungen so und das ist jetzt bei Werbelügen zu stochastischer Analyse wieder so.

@tante it’s not necessarily a scandal. I think it’s not about Bard or OpenAI. The problem is that EU regulation is seen as (too) strict and too fragmented. Which makes it difficult for companies to operate. That’s a problem as developments will continue, but EU is missing out in terms of talents, investments, opportunities in an relevant area.

@tante Regulation is necessary and good. The problem in the EU is that tech regulation is done by lobby groups and technically incompetent politicians who believe in cryptography with backdoors (“it’s secure, but the police can snoop through the messages“) and who don’t have the slightest cue how an LLM works. They should just once ask a mathematician about cryptography and a computer scientist about machine learning.

@tante @chucker It will be fun to see Microsoft not offering Office updates in the EU because ChatGPT will be baked into every app they make. As an iWork user I don’t care, but I doubt the European Commission uses Macs…
