I've read a lot of complaints about #PGP recently. Apparently it's obsolete, ill-designed, unsecure⦠But no one is able to tell me what I'm supposed to use instead. Rants talk about half a dozen experimental tools that do a fraction of what PGP does and aren't supported anywhere. Not helping. If you want to change the game, start by providing a solution.

@galdor iirc even PEP is just a protocol for working with PGP that supposed to make it easier. But every time I tried to use PEP, i can't figure out whats going on and fall back to PGP which is fine for simple day to day users.

@galdor depends on your use-cases of course. My (only) use-case is to encrypt a file for secure storage / transfer, for which I use age nowadays.https://age-encryption.org/

@dekkzz76 @bram85 Age is the perfect example. It only deals with encryption, so it is never going to replace PGP.

@galdor Is there any substantial evidence that there are security flaws in PGP (or GPG for that matter)? That aren't fixed the next morning they become public at least š¤

@galdor these rumors and talks are almost 20 years old :-) but it still works, and, yeah, there is not better alternative.
