It’s more than clear. Republicans want to control the bodies of Americans, whether it be a pregnant person or a person who wants to present themselves as they wish.These aren’t 6 week bans. You may have just a day or two. Then you have to face waiting periods, getting time off work, and screaming people outside a clinic if you can get an appointment. @calculsoberic This is why I devote so much of my limited social media time trying to get people to pay attention and get involved and vote. So much easier to prevent than fix this once it starts rolling. Power-mad right wingers unravel fast. We all need to adopt that attitude- don’t stand for it anymore.

@calculsoberic Absolutely. No gerrymandering, the states we see this in likely don’t do it, because there wouldn’t be so many Republicans and there wouldn’t be supermajorities in a few. And it would be easy to hold them accountable.A lot of these states won’t let abortion rights be a ballot issue, because they know they’d lose.But the reason they could gerrymander is because we didn’t vote enough 10, 20 years ago. So it all comes back to that. Now we have to use the legal system

@calculsoberic a lot of which is taken up by Republican-appointed judges (also back to not enough voting in the past.)Anyway, it’s going to be a long haul to take this stuff through courts. We need to be supportive of Planned Parenthood’s efforts, do our own part, and keeping turning out voters. No magic wand.

@TonyStark @calculsoberic I run into this so much in discussions on climate action. People want a magic wand to be waved and for policies to be immediately implemented with "magic wands".It's so frustrating that they don't seem to appreciate that they are advocating for authoritarian rule. Constitutional democracies are slow by design which is a good thing. Just imagine how much worse Trump's administration would have been without constitutional protections and administrative law inertia.

@calculsoberic @GreenFire Thank you, yes. I have another down in the mentions claiming that since Biden hasn’t completed his whole agenda by now, people will be turned off (I don’t agree there but anyway.) He’s really completed a number of things conservative courts struck down or limited and has a clown car House right now. People really need to take all this in mind when evaluating the options.

Like they won't vote for Biden and Democrats because Republicans have done everything in their power to block student loan forgiveness when the only real solution is to vote for more Democrats in order to decrease the power that the GOP has.So fucking frustrating and quite scary if we can't get the message out to enough potential nonvoters.

@calculsoberic @GreenFire I don’t know about you but in person, it’s going really well. I hope the social media stuff helps. I figure even the people who scream at me and block me for explaining how turnout got us here might at least go and consider it and that there are probably passive readers.It does make the job harder when people spread stuff they saw on Twitter (guessing) sayjng unrealistic things that set us all up for failure.

@TonyStark @calculsoberic @GreenFire @RevLindsay Phone banks and writing postcards are a good way to get people to vote that are safe, if you live in an open carry state. You can also put up flyers (obviously not on cars) but on telephone poles, at community post boards, like the post office has, and around college campuses
