@Myunfocusedlife Sure, but it is 20% or so larger and according to presenter also lots heavier...

@PA0ETE That is pretty big for a 10 meter rig. I am comparing it to my G90, which is cute and small.

@Myunfocusedlife I own a similar transceiver from Albrecht. On SSB it is not really handy, but it is ideal for working repeaters. The albrecht has repeater offset, though it doesn't have CTCSS. I used mine when I was building a 10m repeater some 10 yrs. ago for testing. The newest version of the one I have, also has 12 meters (mine starts at 25,045 MHz, so just above that band. This new version costs almost 2 times as much though... (continues)

@Myunfocusedlife (continued) Indeed, better buy a 'real' transceiver like the Xiegu. Unless you are into FM and repeaters.8 years ago I sold TTI transceivers for 27 MHz, that were modified to do 25.080 up to 31.000 MHz with 5 kHz steps, only AM and FM, with 4 watts, but they were only 49 euros. They didn't have an offset, but people near a repeater just bought two with that price and used two antennas :)

@PA0ETE 😊 the one shortcoming of the G90 is no CTCSS. Many of us have requested it. My 7300 can do 10 meter fm with CTCSS. On a good day with some skip, I work repeaters all over the US.

@Pa2qxt @Myunfocusedlife Amateur and CB services are much different though. With the second, communication is the core business, with the first, communication is kind of a side product, where technology and self-development is the core business. #hamradio

@PA0ETE @Pa2qxt yes. Communication is definitely a side business for me. I listen to the CB band and am not sure I would be comfortable talking to anyone.

@PA0ETE @Myunfocusedlife Well, John, I did a lot of DX'ing on 27555kHz and made QSO's with stations in Sint Maarten, America, Argentina, Asiatic Russia and Brasil. Years earlier, when I was 13 or 14 years old, I made a paper at school about the technical aspects of 27Mc; for all those mentioned reasons I considered myself as a type of "HAM-light".....

@Pa2qxt @PA0ETE it is a great social hobby. 27mhz is a great band. If I were more social I would love it. Alas, talking to people makes me anxious. That is why I like digital modes and CW best. I mostly use GMRS to talk with family. Now if CB allowed digital modes.

@Myunfocusedlife @Pa2qxt DIgital is allowed in The Netherlands. Repeaters as well. Including repeaters between PMR446 and 27 MHz. There even used to be a nationwide repeater that was between channel 19 (in) and channel 9 (out0, which there probably still is They used the same software and websites as the famous PI3UTR and PI2NOS repeaters on 2 meters and 70 cm respectively.

@Myunfocusedlife @Pa2qxt I started the hobby with home building of transceivers. But while waiting to be able to do the exam and get a license I first discovered 27 MHz (this was in 1973). Those CB-ers thought I was crazy. I built my own CB radio, and why should you do something mad like that? For only 200 guilders those days you could buy one :) Theirs had only 3 watts though, and min 25W. And they started talking differently when I was the first having a roger beep :) Then they wanted one too.

@PA0ETE @Pa2qxt that is pretty nice. Probably why more hams are involved in CB. The interesting conversations here are outside the legal channels. The legal channels are full of the “good buddy” language of the 1970s trucker movies. I would never be able to talk like that😊

@Myunfocusedlife @Pa2qxt CB wasn't legal back then in the 70s. It became legal March 1980 in The Netherlands. The band (just like ham bands often are) is very quiet. I do have 2 legal CB radio's. I don't want to use ham gear on the band. But it is very seldom that I do that.I have a beacon on 28,302 MHz, and I know that is also used by some building CB'ers to test their home made antennas.

@Myunfocusedlife @Pa2qxt Michael, I have a new beacon transmitter that will be up soon. It does also WSPR in addition to CW, so you might be able to receive that in the Rotterdam area that way. Beacon is an Ultimate3S from QRP Labs, with small modifications and including GPS receiver for WSPR use.http://qrp-labs.com/ultimate3/u3s.html
