"We are not comfortable asking volunteers and speakers to take what we believe are significant risks to their long term health to come and participate in [DEF CON 31] Skytalks. #LongCOVID is still a thing, and given how many of our organizers and speakers already have other long term health issues that could be complicated by long-term COVID issues, we feel it irresponsible of us to ask them, or any of us, to assume that risk right now."https://skytalks.info1/2

The data show there's still a risk of long-term health damage from even a mild case of Covid. So I try to spend what I consider my 'risk budget' wisely. This helps explain why:"I got long COVID from Omicron, because I was triply vaccinated, public health told me it was mild, and I was convinced I was suffering professionally from lockdown," Chris J. Maddison said on Twitter. "Turns out, in retrospect, my risk was 4%. I'm a statistician. 4% is a catastrophic risk, and I regret gambling."
