I’m very confused as to if the “Legacy Ad-Free plan” on Max includes 4K UHD, does anyone know? It’s the plan they move you over to if you already paid for HBO Max for the year.

@monorailtimes oh damn. Are they upcharging for resolution now?? I had hoped that Netflix would stop being the only service to do that. Now another service is backsliding into that.

@PhilGastwirth @MarkWillard No actually, they only charged for ad-free, now they put 4k HDR and atmos on the top tier only $50 more a year

@monorailtimesWhen I had hbo max, I had to sign up to the higher tier in order to get 4k when they first started adding 4k. Maybe they changed after and I didn't realize it @MarkWillard

@PhilGastwirth @monorailtimes I think you may both be right IIRC... Initially in 2021 the only content that had 4K/Atmos on HBO Max were the new release films that were released to HBO Max the same day as theatrical. Those films were only available on the ad-free plan, so by default that was also the only way to get 4K/Atmos, because it was the only way to get the content that had it. But it wasn't advertised as a 4K upcharge; but rather an ad-free/brand new movie upcharge.
