If you ever fancy a bit of casual trolling, can I recommend any thread about Linux on The Register? Here you will find the kinds of users who believe that their use of X11 to do some obscure things involving remote applications means that someone else should be maintaining X11 to a much higher standard, and that if you would prefer, say, a working fractional scaling system you are somehow “not a professional user”.

@ianbetteridge X11 still does everything I need perfectly well, and as long as it keeps doing that, I see no reason why I should devote a week (or however long it would take) of my time to figuring how do almost but not quite the same things with Wayland. Go on, call me a troll.

Related: one day I will get round to writing my long-considered screed about the damage which the “British Tech Pundit” of the early 80s did to both British tech journalism and the British tech scene. With a special mention of Cix.

@mansr Not at all! If it works for you that's great. What galls me is the arrogance of some users who literally cannot comprehend that you might actually be a "professional user" and have different priorities which mean that Wayland (say) is a better choice.

@mansr @ianbetteridge surely the problem is not people who prefer X11 for their personal situation, but people who then expect others to continue to work on X11 for free as a result of their personal preference.

@benjamineskola @ianbetteridge True, and that attitude is not limited to X11 users.
