Switched to the Jessie Beige 500 PLA to print a PBI port cover for the machine that @GedgeHead sent me. Having a 3D printer has really been wonderful for my vintage computer hobby. Mine is a Prusa Mini+Model from https://www.printables.com/model/30342/relatedI'm still getting very visible printing lines in the flat surfaces. I feel like I've got the Z axis pretty close to the bed already. Maybe too close? Or something else? It's not terrible, and I won't mind on this print, but I'd love to know how some folks get prints that look smoother.#3dprinting #vintagecomputing

@mmu_man @GedgeHead @MuseumJoe @javmaster Not sure - I'm using the recommended settings for this printer in Prusa Slicer. Others are saying my Z is still too high so i might adjust it further. 😬

@MuseumJoe @GedgeHead https://www.printedsolid.com/collections/jessie-pla/products/jessie-pla-1-75mm-x-1kg-beige-500Was recommended* to me by Todd Gil of RetroFrog. It's designed to match the Amiga 500 plastic, hence the name. Sadly it appears to be out of stock. (* Actually, he bought me the entire setup, so Thanks Todd!)

@48kRAM @GedgeHead I see some gaps between the lines, so think that you can get closer (there are plenty of models to help with the fine adjustments), but what really helps with the lines is a textured sheet. If you get one you still should adjust the Z axis, of course.Hope this helps.

@Siff @48kRAM @GedgeHead there are some options to treat the surface as well, like sprays (haven't tried)…And other methods like the one I use but it's cumbersome:https://m.g3l.org/@mmu_man/110398018042849824

@48kRAM @MuseumJoe @GedgeHead thinking someone should make a curated table of all those matched filaments…But where? MS GitHub? TinkerDifferent?

@mmu_man @48kRAM @GedgeHead Sure! You can smooth ABS very well with acetone, even some PLAs can be smoothed with alcohol. I suggested textured sheet as an option since the original has slight texture, so with texture, the replica cover might get even closer to the original.
